In today’s time and age, where ‘Hustle’ is the new mantra, and we are quick to use and throw things; we do not take the time to re-imagine and re-create. A sustainable lifestyle is one where we are conscious of what we buy, consume and throw; and mindful of how these actions affect our environment.
It’s delightful to see how a young artist from Stamdford has up-cycled a worn-out chair to create this amazing wall, instead of letting it rot in a landfill. Often times, it only requires thinking outside the box to make a little difference.
We got in touch with Abhay and this is what he had to say about this mini-project,
“An old plywood chair belonging to my parents had lost the structure and elasticity in its frame and was headed to the landfill, so I re-purposed it for a personal art project instead. I disassembled the chair and tried to imagine how best to take advantage of the shape and wood grain that the chair frame had retained, while avoiding using the wood pieces in any load bearing capacity.
After settling on a shape and color scheme, I sketched and painted the butterfly that would comprise the background of the image. I then began mounting the wood pieces I had prepared by sanding down the top layers of dirt and polish, and brushing on an ebony stain that would highlight the natural grain of the wood while darkening its overall shade. I spent a few hours painting each day after work, so the entire project took about a week to complete. ”
