While many of you may be interested in reducing your carbon footprint, and adopting environment friendly practices, you might not have adequate information or knowledge. We are commencing a series of posts on how you can adopt eco-friendly practices in your day to day life. This is first in a series of chapters to help you attain a Zero Plastic- Waste life!
Let’s start with five simple environment friendly habits:
- Carry a water bottle along so you don’t have to buy plastic water bottles when you go out! Carry a reusable water bottle and fill it in the airport.
- Carry a reusable straw like the one listed here. No, this isn’t uncool, trust me. This only shows that you are willing to take an effort to minimize plastic pollution, and that is super cool and commendable. You could also skip the straw completely and have it straight from the glass, instead. Skipping the straw is no where enough to save the environment or get rid of plastics in the ocean; but it’s a gateway to the realization about how plastics have encroached our lives.
- Carry a cloth shopping bag with you always. When you shop groceries or other items, don’t mindlessly take the plastic bag handed over to you. Stop right there, refuse the plastic bag and carry it in your cloth bag instead. Pat your back! Send less plastic to the landfills.
- Reuse. Reuse. Reuse. What you cannot reuse, refuse! Our parents were smart in reusing small containers and boxes and what not. Let’s bring that back. Reuse the chocolate box to keep stationary, small containers to store the spices and and your hair clips and so on. The more we reuse, less waste we send to the landfills. Reusing things we have and refusing single-use plastics, are some ways towards a sustainable and zero-waste lifestyle.
- Walk to the nearby restaurant and enjoy a meal instead of ordering in! Yes, that’s right. Every time you order in, the restaurant guys would pack your food in plastic containers and send it across!
That was easy, right? These are five simple things that we can start doing today to be more conscious about the waste we throw at our environment!
